Taught by Alexis Dolphin. This course introduces the biological dimensions of what it means to be human. Topics include the scientific method and its application to human origins, genetics and heredity (from Mendelian to molecular), evolutionary theory and natural selection, human biological variation and adaptation, primate taxonomy and behaviour, the hominin fossil record from early bipeds through Homo sapiens, bioarchaeology, and forensic anthropology. The course emphasizes the biocultural approach — how biology and culture continuously interact to shape human populations.
