CS 371

Intro to computational mathematics

Taught by a PhD student, Ali. Bonus is great: attend to 5 short quizzes, then you get 5 marks.

This course is math heavy (compared to cs 370, which is programming heavy). The content is a bit disorganized…

These notes cover numerical methods and computational mathematics. Topics include floating-point arithmetic and error analysis, root finding (bisection, fixed point, Newton’s method), numerical linear algebra (Gaussian elimination, LU factorization, condition numbers), polynomial interpolation (Lagrange, Hermite, splines), numerical integration (trapezoidal, Simpson’s, Gaussian quadrature), and the discrete Fourier transform.
